Gene,

I also know Rob, as he has spoken at the National Association of Patent Practitioners (www.napp.org) annual meeting on several occasions. He is a great choice for the position.

Rob Clarke once spent a little time a few years back helping me with an odd USPTO situation when I called the OPLA with a problem. I thought he was professional and knowledgable and I appreciate anyone at the USPTO that will take some time to help someone that they have no obligation to. As Gene said, some will have a negative association with him due to the rules package, but I suppose that unless he wanted to lose his job, he had no choice but to go along with the program. Nobody knows how he really felt about those rules. So I think this is probably a positive appointment.
