Tell A Friend!

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.  These are a few of the more popular Social Networking sites that you have probably already heard of and may already be using.  But Social Networking platforms such as these are not just for playing online social games, taking quizzes, sending virtual gifts or reconnecting with friends and family.  In fact Social Networking is another way to advertise yourself and your business for free or at a very low cost.  In my last article The Importance of Having a Web Presence I talked about utilizing the Internet via a website of your own, in order to expand your reach, while incurring very little additional overhead costs.  Social Networking is a very inexpensive means for advertising what your business is and does and what services and products you offer.  In this article, Part I of a Social Networking series, we take an in-depth look at Facebook.

  1. Awesome list! I think another great tip is when you connect with people, don’t just add them or follow them, but actually be personable. Drop a line, show that you’re interested in connected and not just getting business.

  2. Alex,

Thank you for your advice. And thank you for reading our blog! You are absolutely correct. I mentioned uploading photos to put a personal touch on things but what better way to do so other than to say hello and just introducing yourself! Many people do shy away when they think you are out to sell them, but just saying hi is a great way break the ice!

  3. One thing I would recommend (after someone in my list did it and I kind of fell for it) is sending a little message when you request someone’s ‘friendship’ on FB, for example ‘Hi, I added you on my friends list because I like this project [..] that you’re part of, would like to know more about it etc.’ It really pays off by giving a personal touch to your profile.

  4. I have read your article and thought your readers might be interested in ParcelGenie.com where you can send real gifts to your contacts on all your favourite social networking sites, check out the articles featured in mashable.

  5. Renee,
This was a great article! You did an excellent job talking about the aspects of Facebook. Another aspects of Facebook and using it for business is its PPC. Facebook PPC always businesses to laser target your audience…unlike Google.

  10. It seems to me that with social media, many businesses would be struggling to compete. It is just as important these days to have a FB page as it is to get No1 in Google.

  11. Silver,

Thank you for reading and for taking the time to comment. I agree, that many businesses would benefit from having a FB page. The audience on FB is so widely vast. I have a FB page facebook.com/TheSocialMediaDiva (which if you will like it I’d appreciate it). It’s a great way to share information with others in a little more depth than microblogging on twitter but is not as time consuming as having your own blog. Again thanks for taking the time to comment,

    Renee

  12. Because of social media so many business bloom and some others were launched. This might be the biggest reason why social media is so important today. This brings to the idea that in the near future, most social media sites are no longer free. But until then we should enjoy the present and use this social media like facebook for the good of our business and personal endeavor.
