Job Opening: Electrical / Computer Patent Attorney or Agent
Zies, Widerman & Malek, located in Melbourne, Florida, seeks one or more patent attorneys or patent agents to join a busy and growing patent practice.
The firm seeks candidates with 2+ years of patent drafting experience, although less experience will be considered with well qualified candidates who closely match the desired technical background.
The ideal candidate will have experience writing patent applications. Patent bar qualified is an absolute must. Candidates who are already members of the patent bar are preferred. Knowledge of and practical experience with the Bilski machine-or-transformation requirements is a plus. Prosecution experience is helpful, but not required.
The firm has a heavy patent prosecution emphasis on electronics and electrical devices, mechanical devices, medical devices, as well as computer software and systems. With this in mind, an electrical engineering or computer engineering background is preferred, mechanical engineers with sufficient expertise in the computer technologies will also be considered. Candidates without these backgrounds are still encouraged to apply but must have practical patent experience drafting patent applications associated with electrical devices, mechanical devices, medical devices, computers software and systems.
Duties will include working with inventors, as well as preparing provisional and non-provisional patent applications. Depending on experience level, additional responsibilities may include providing litigation support and prosecuting existing patent applications, filing PCT applications and working with foreign counsel to prosecute foreign patent applications. Those familiar with filing and prosecuting trademark applications should specifically mention such experience when applying, although any trademark duties will be only ancillary.
The firm is also willing to consider more experienced patent attorneys or patent agents who have portable business, subject to conflict checks.
