A viola can be made into either a violin or a cello, depending upon your mood or inclination and the length of the strings. I have considered building a fretted viola, which could be played au shoulder, which might also be played sans shoulder in some situations. It really doesn’t matter what you call it, as long as it makes beautiful music. I think David might agree.
