Call for Information: Study on Patent Assertion Entities

I recently received an e-mail from a colleague who is embarking on an interesting research project. This colleague, who would like to remain publicly anonymous for the time being so as to be able to conduct the underlying research privately and without influence.  The researcher is seeking to interview a number of different industry participants for a research study on patent assertion entities.

Specifically, the researcher is looking to talk to the following types of people:

  1. Solo inventors or small firms that have sold their invention rights to a patent assertion entity.
  2. Solo inventors or small firms that attempted to sell their invention rights to a manufacturing entity but failed.
  3. Entities that previously were engaged in manufacturing but now primarily license their intellectual property portfolios.
  4. Entities that have licensed technology from a patent assertion entity that previously was a manufacturing entity.

Interview data will remain confidential.  If you fit within any of these categories and would be willing to answer a few questions, please e-mail your contact information to:

    Solo Inventor-

I am not sure about the answer to your question. The best I can suggest is to send a e-mail to the address above and ask that question and whether they view this as “reporting” and would agree to keep sources confidential.

Gene — would the interview data still remain confidential in the unfortunate event your colleague were subpoenaed or otherwise ordered by a court to testify concerning the information someone (solo inventor/small company) supplied for the research project?
