Thomas Anderton Joins Squire Patton Boggs in San Francisco

Thomas Anderton has joined the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice at Squire Patton Boggs as of counsel in San Francisco. Mr. Anderton has extensive life sciences experience, with a particular focus on biopharma IP portfolios.  Mr. Anderton joins the firm from Zonare Medical Systems, an ultrasound solutions company, where he was General Counsel and Secretary with responsibility for the company’s legal and business strategy with a strong emphasis on IP protection, portfolio management and transactions.

Before joining Zonare, he was Vice President of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs at Presidio Pharmaceuticals Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company focusing on the hepatitis C virus, and previously Associate General Counsel and Chief Patent Counsel at Monogram Biosciences Inc., where he was responsible for the IP portfolio, which was widely recognized as being industry-leading. Earlier in his career, he was Lead Attorney for Healthcare at Genencor, Inc. where he developed and implemented the company’s life sciences and healthcare IP portfolio.

The Intellectual Property & Technology Practice has made a number of key appointments and promotions in 2016. The firm recently added a five-lawyer brand management team in Frankfurt; a data privacy and cybersecurity expert in Brussels; and promoted two lawyers to partner in Palo Alto and London respectively. In the Life Sciences Industry Group, Leah Brownlee re-joined the firm in October as of counsel from Cleveland BioLabs Inc, where she served as Executive Vice President of Compliance and Operations and Corporate Secretary.

Mr. Anderton studied Molecular Biology at the University of California at San Diego and Cancer Biology at Stanford University. He received his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of California and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
