David Leichtman Departs Big Law to Open Boutique Business and IP Trial Law Firm

David Leichtman

David Leichtman, Esq. has announced the launch of his new law firm Leichtman Law PLLC, a New York-based boutique focusing on trial work on business and intellectual property matters.

Previously a partner at Robins Kaplan Lovells and Morgan Lewis, Mr. Leichtman will now head a team of former colleagues and friends who have also left bigger law firms.

Leichtman Law will handle international and domestic business and intellectual property litigation of all types, including in the media & entertainment, financial services, and life sciences industries, among others.

“After twenty years working in large firms, I am directing my energies into a more nimble practice,” said Mr. Leichtman. “As a trial lawyer,  I have always been focused on my clients’ business goals, and I am excited by the growth potential of a business model which creates opportunities for our clients to resolve disputes more efficiently than can be done at larger firms.”

Mr. Leichtman is joined by experienced commercial and IP litigators Richard A. Mescon, Matthew McFarlane and Tatsuya Adachi (all formerly of Robins Kaplan), David H. Brill (former General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Gemini Trust Company) and Shevani Jaisingh (formerly of Sullivan & Cromwell and Greenberg Traurig).

Mr. Leichtman plans to grow his firm to at least 25 lawyers. “During the last seven years I helped build Robins Kaplan’s New York office
from three to forty lawyers, and I am confident we can grow our new shop as well,” said Mr. Leichtman.

Mr. Leichtman serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Volunteer Lawyers For The Arts; on the IPO Committee on Copyright
Practice; and on the NYIPLA Committees on Patent Litigation and Inventor of the Year. He has been named a New York SuperLawyer every year since 2010. In 2016, The New York Law Journal selected him as a Lawyer Who Leads by Example for providing crucial pro bono legal services in New York. He is also a fellow, Litigation Counsel of America, a highly selective Trial Lawyer Honor Society.
