Randy Omid and Michael Swett Join Dentons San Francisco Office

SAN FRANCISCO, OCT. 23, 2017 — Dentons, the global law firm, welcomes two more partners to its award-winning Intellectual Property and Technology practice. Randy Omid and Michael Swett join the firm’s San Francisco office.

Omid and Swett add to Dentons’ highly regarded patent prosecution practice and further expand the firm’s bench of experienced IP lawyers across the US. They join shortly after the recent addition of three intellectual property partner laterals, Peter Yim, Brian Ho and Christopher Eide.  Omid and Swett will help lead a team of 16 associates and patent agents/analysts, who also recently joined Dentons.

Their clients range from startups to fortune 100 companies in the high technology industry, including an industry-leading California-based global smartphone and computer manufacturer.

“Randy and Michael are outstanding lawyers joining a team of industry-leading intellectual property practitioners,” said Mike McNamara, US CEO of Dentons. “This has been a tremendous year of growth and innovation for our Intellectual Property and Technology team across the US, making Dentons uniquely positioned to solve client problems that others cannot.”

Omid specializes in US and foreign patent protection for large and startup companies. He applies his experience as a senior engineer to advise clients on all aspects of intellectual property, including matters related to patent preparation and prosecution, reexamination, licensing, infringement, trade secrets, acquisitions and competitive analysis.

Swett focuses his practice on patent prosecution, litigation support, post-grant proceedings and IP due diligence. He has grown patent portfolios on behalf of clients ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations in a variety of technical fields, including speech processing, cloud computing, virtualization, computer networks, broadband video encoding and semiconductor devices.

Dentons’ Intellectual Property and Technology practice consists of more than 100 lawyers and professionals, including numerous experienced electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, computer scientists, chemical engineers, PhDs and other technically trained professionals holding advanced degrees. Dentons’ IP group has consistently received top rankings in leading trade publications, including IAM Patents 1000, Legal 500 and Chambers USA. Most recently, patent analytics firm Juristat ranked Dentons the number one US patent prosecution firm, based on patent quality and number of filings. In addition, the group was named an “IP Litigation Powerhouse” in the BTI Litigation Outlook 2017, which also included Dentons in its “Fearsome Foursome” in recognition of the  litigators’ intense approach and fiercely successful tactics. The San Francisco/Silicon Valley IP team received a Corporate LiveWire Global Award for IP litigation in 2016. Law360 lists Dentons as one of the nation’s “Top 50 Litigation Powerhouse Firms.”
