Paul Fakler Joins Orrick’s IP Team in NY

Paul FaklerMarch 2018Orrick is pleased to announce that Paul Fakler, a nationally recognized adviser in complex copyright litigation and policy matters, including the unique area of royalty rate disputes before the Copyright Royalty Board and PRO Rate Courts, has joined the firm as a partner. Paul joins our IP practice group in New York from Arent Fox.

Paul is one of a handful of specialists in matters before the Copyright Royalty Board, representing major digital music service clients and others in bet-the-company disputes. His clients have included Music Choice, Sirius XM, MediaNet, Yahoo!, and MP3.com.

Paul also advises music, motion picture, software development and digital media innovators in copyright, trademark, right of publicity and Internet law issues, including copyright-related government relations, legislative and policy matters.

Paul has specialized in copyright law for nearly two decades, including practicing before the Copyright Review Board and litigating numerous cutting-edge copyright matters with William Patry. He is the former chair of the New York State Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section, a member of the Copyright Society of the USA and the International Trademark Association, has been listed in Chambers USA the past five years for both trademark and copyright practices, and ranked in Managing Intellectual Property’s “IP Stars” guide and The Legal 500 since 2013.

In addition to Paul, Eric Roman will also be joining our IP practice as Of Counsel in New York from Arent Fox.

American Lawyer named Orrick Intellectual Property Litigation Department of the Year in 2016.  The firm was on National Law Journal’s 2016 IP Hot List and has been named a Law360 IP Group of the year four times.
