ABOUT GENE

Gene is a US Patent Attorney, Law Professor and known by many as “The IPWatchdog.” Gene started the widely popular intellectual property website IPWatchdog.com in 1999, and since that time the site has had millions of unique visitors.  Gene has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the Wall Street Journal Law Blog, the New York Times, the LA Times, CNN Money and various other newspapers and magazines worldwide.  Gene is a member of the Board of Directors of the United Inventors Association, and he teaches a patent bar review course that helps aspiring patent attorneys and patent agents prepare themselves to pass the patent bar exam. 

Gene has taught a variety of intellectual property courses at the law school level, including patent law, patent claim drafting, patent prosecution, copyright law, trademark law, introduction to intellectual property, antitrust law, sports law and entertainment law. Since 1996, Gene taught at Syracuse University College of Law, Temple University School of Law, The University of Toledo College of Law, Franklin Pierce Law Center and Whittier Law School. Gene presently teaches as Professor for Concord Law School.

Gene has had a wide range of legal experience, starting out at a general civil litigation firm where he primarily engaged in representing clients involved in complex litigation matters. In addition he was a founding member and managing partner of Smith, Quinn & Associates, a small intellectual property boutique firm located in Concord, New Hampshire, and later a founding member of White & Quinn, a patent boutique located in Northern Virginia.  He also spent two years as Vice President and General Counsel for an independent record label in Orlando, Florida.
