IPWatchdog.com Chosen as one of the ABA Journal’s Top 100

I am pleased to announce that the Editors of the ABA Journal yesterday announced they have selected IPWatchdog.com as one of the top 100 best law blogs by lawyers, for lawyers. Now readers are being asked to vote on their favorites in each of the 4th Annual Blawg 100’s 12 categories. IPWatchdog.com is in the “IP Law” category. To vote, please visit The 2010 ABA Journal Blawg 100. You do need to register to be able to vote, but registration is free (and they don’t seem to send any unsolicited e-mails, which is nice). If you are already registered all you have to do is sign in and vote. Voting ends at close of business on December 30, 2010.

On the ABA Top 100 website, under IP Law, the Editors of the ABA Journal had this to say about IPWatchdog.com:

Some notable posts for IPWatchdog this year—the 11th for Gene Quinn’s website—include interviews with both Nick Godici, former acting director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and current director David Kappos.

In fact, we conducted numerous interviews throughout the year, and our interview series no doubt has become a focal point of our efforts to provide unique content for our readers.  It is certainly fair to say that those who took the time to submit to an interview helped play an important role in our receiving this recognition, so a deserved tip of the hat is owed to these individuals.  Special thanks goes out to all those I had the privilege interviewing during 2010 (listed below in alphabetical order):

  • U.S. Senator Birch Bayh (ret.)
  • Q. Todd Dickinson, Former USPTO Director (current Executive Director AIPLA)
  • Jim Greenwood, President & CEO of BIO
  • Nick Godici, Former Acting USPTO Director (currently with Birch Stewart)
  • Francis Gurry, WIPO Director General
  • David Kappos, USPTO Director
  • Chancellor Linda Katehi, UC Davis
  • Professor Mark Lemley, Stanford University
  • Chief Judge Paul Michel, CAFC (ret.)
  • Gary Michelson, Independent Inventor who sold his portfolio for $1.35 billion
  • Cheryl Milone, President of Article One Partners
  • Chief Judge Randall Rader, CAFC

While I am the principal author of articles that appear on IPWatchdog.com, we are lucky to have a number of individuals who contribute as well. First and foremost is my partner in crime, business and life, Renee C. Quinn, who I am told was referred to by USPTO Director David Kappos as my “better half,” which I still haven’t lived down!  Renee has written numerous business articles, focusing primarily on using social media to establish yourself as an expert and generating business.  She also writes about brand building and other matters as well.

We are also lucky to have had thirty-four (34) others contribute to IPWatchdog.com so far during 2010.  In alphabetical order here is the list of contributors who have written for us so far this year, and who certainly deserve a share of this great recognition:

  • Joseph Allen
  • Andrew Beckerman-Rodau
  • Richard Belzer
  • Merritt Blakeslee
  • Dmitry Brant
  • Andrew Cole
  • Robert C. Cumbow
  • Scott Daniels
  • Staci Dresher
  • Tracy-Gene Durkin
  • Jeffery Fougere
  • Eric Guttag
  • Michelle Holoubek
  • Beth Hutchens
  • Michael Kasdan
  • Ron Katznelson, Ph.D.

  • Trent Merrell
  • James Mintz
  • Andre Nel
  • Henry Notthaft

  • Robert Plotkin
  • James Richardson
  • Eric Steffe
  • Roberto M. Suárez
  • Amy Towell
  • Pat Walsh
  • Joff Wild
  • Tara J. Williams

It is a great honor to be included in the ABA top 100, but true thanks needs to go to our readers who make what we do worthwhile.  We really appreciate the time you take to read our thoughts and rantings, and the truly substantive participation we have in comments to the articles.

Now, if I can ask a favor — please vote, and please vote for IPWatchdog.com! The below screenshot shows you where you can register or login, and where you will find the IP Law category, just look for the large red arrows in the image below.

Cheers and thanks for your support!

    Cheryl,

Although I have not met you, I want to personally thank you as well as all of those who have agreed to interviews with The IPWatchdog. Again, we could not be where we are without the support of folks like you. We also appreciate your kind comments. It keeps us motivated knowing that we have such loyal readers who respect and appreciate what we and Gene in particular, are trying to do for the betterment of IP.

All the best (to you as well)

    Steve-

Thank you for your comment. I agree with your assessment that the IP World would not be the same without Gene. I tell him that all of the time. Good to hear from others though. We do work hard to fight the good fight and I am so proud to be a part of it. And we appreciate you and all of our readers for your ongoing support.

    All the best,

    Renée

    Gene,

Congratulations! The ABA journal is terrific recognition for you. My experience in the coverage by you Gene is demonstrative of your analytical and objective reporting. When ArticleOnePartners.com launched, you had questions about our model. I reached out and after several discussions, you followed-up with additional in depth coverage and praise as well as an interview. I also found your coverage of Director Kappos’ initiatives at the Patent Office to be insightful and supportive of the industry. I applaud your work and feel fortunate to be counted among your interviewees (and I already voted! and encourage others to do the same).

    All the best, Cheryl

    Thanks Steve. Thanks BD.

I love doing this and don’t plan on going anywhere. After all, someone has to help with the Kook Aid sales, right?

    Cheers.

A hard-earned and well deserved award indeed; for you both.

Thank you (and your interviewees, contributors, and comment posters) for all the great information, analysis, and viewpoints you all provide.

The IP world wouldn’t be the same without you … meaning, o’ course, that you’re “stuck” continuing to do what you do … for many years to come. 🙂
