Gene Quinn Elected to UIA Board

The United Inventors Association recently held an interim election to replace the Jack Smith who resigned as the UIA President and Board Member.  Gene Quinn, a patent attorney with White + Quinn and the founder of IPWatchdog.com, was elected to the Board to serve the remainder of Smith’s term, which will run through 2009.

Don’t Send the Wrong Message

Many times inventors and entrepreneurs will unwittingly price products at a point where they are sending the wrong message.  Virtually everyone who has their own business, whether they are selling a product or offering a service, has fallen victim to the same problem at one point in time or another.  When you are starting out it is tempting to offer a low price in order to get started.  The trouble with this method, however, is that many people use price as a way to inform themselves about quality.  If your price is to low then many will assume that what you have to offer is not of a high enough quality and simply go elsewhere. 



Protecting Trade Secret Assets

If you ask the owners of most companies whether they have any intellectual property assets, assuming they know what you are talking about they are likely to say no.  The problem with that, however, is that the answer should universally be a resounding YES!  Every company has intellectual property assets.  The name of your company is an asset that can be protected via various trademark laws, and can generate good will, which is potentially the largest asset of any kind that many businesses will have.  Explained in this way many will at least acknowledge that intellectual property assets exist, but the one type of intellectual property that most businesses completely ignore is the trade secret. 



What is a Confidentiality Agreement?

A Confidentiality Agreement, which is also known as non-disclosure agreement or NDA, is simply a contract between two or more parties where the subject of the agreement is a promise that information conveyed will be maintained in secrecy. These agreements can be mutual agreements, where both parties are obligated to maintain secrecy, or they can be unilateral agreements, where only the receiving party becomes obligated to maintain secrecy….       Continue reading >>>
