My name is Gene Quinn, and I am a Patent Attorney, Law Professor and
the Founder of IPWatchdog.com, which is now owned and operated by
IPWatchdog, Inc. IPWatchdog.com was originally started in 1999 and
since that time it has been a resource on Intellectual Property and
related topics of law for the over 1 million visitors that have come
to IPWatchdog.com over the years. My particular patent specialty is
in the area of business methods, software, computer and Internet
applications. I am also the inventor of our patent unique system,
which requires inventors to submit answers to a detailed invention
questionnaire, with the submitted information being used to create a
first draft of the application. This draft is subsequently reviewed,
modified, edited and supplemented by my firm, White
& Quinn, P.C. We have a United States patent pending on
this system, and will soon be filing additional patent applications
covering improvements and a more functional, interactive system.
In addition to my duties with IPWatchdog, I also teach Concord
Law School, and I teach a patent bar review course for the Practicing
Law Institute (PLI). In my spare time I write a monthly
column for Patent World, which
is an industry magazine with worldwide distribution, and I am on the
Patent World editorial board. I
am also the lead contributing author for the PLI
Patent Practice Center, which is an online patent form.
I have previously taught a variety of intellectual property courses,
including patent law, patent claim drafting, patent prosecution,
copyright law, trademark law and introduction to intellectual
property at Syracuse University College of Law, Temple University
School of Law, The University of Toledo College of Law, Franklin
Pierce Law Center and Whittier Law School.
I am admitted to practice law in the State of New Hampshire (USA), I
am a patent attorney registered to practice before the United States
Patent Office (Reg. No. 44,294) and I am also admitted to practice
before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. My
primary areas of expertise are in the areas of patent and trade
secret law, patent prosecution and technology transfer. As a member
of the patent bar I am licensed to practice patent law throughout the
United States, and I have worked with inventors from New Hampshire,
New Jersey, New York, Florida, Ohio, Utah, Texas, Nevada, Kansas,
Oregon and California, as well as with inventors located in the
United Kingdom and the UAE.
Prior to moving into the academic world I was employed at a general
civil litigation firm, where I primarily engaged in representing
clients involved in complex litigation. I was also a founding member
and managing partner of Smith, Quinn & Associates, a small
intellectual property boutique firm located in Concord, New
Hampshire, and I also spent two years as Vice President and General
Counsel of an independent record label.
We
are a proud member of the United
Inventors Association
