We will write your profile based on the information you provide and include links to your homepage. At your option we can also publish a copy of your patent application, published patent application or issued patent. We are also happy to include your contact information should you be interested in accepting inquiries regarding your invention, and we can include a photograph of your invention as well.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Why are you doing this for free?

ANSWER: We are offering this service for free for several reasons.  First, it will give us access to fresh new content that fits within the topic of our site.  Second, if we profile your invention you are likely to tell your friends and family and they will likely visit our website, giving us more traffic and greater visibility.  Search engines love it when your traffic increases, so this will benefit us while we are benefiting you.  Third, when we profile your invention you are likely going to link to our page that profiles your invention, so again we get more incoming links that will again benefit us.  Finally, if this is successful and is perceived to be valuable perhaps down the road we might be able to market this service for a modest fee.

2. If you do market this service in the future what will happen to my profile?

ANSWER: In the event we do begin charging for this service any profiles completed for free would remain a part of the IPWatchdog.com archive.  We will not take any completed profiles down.

3. Will you publish the information I provide unchanged?

ANSWER: What we will do is take the information you send and weave it into a unique news story. We will not say anything negative, only positive stuff. The reason for the questions is to really give the inventor/company a chance to explain what makes the invention special. This is something that typically doesn’t go into press releases, likely because of word limitations. Unfortunately, most patent applications do not have this type of information either. Having taught patent application drafting for about 10 years it is always frustrating to see patents and pending applications that miss the opportunity to explain why the invention is really unique and worthy of a patent. This is the type of thing though that customers, investors and industry types like myself really are interested in.

4. What is the ideal submission that you are looking for?

ANSWER: Ideally we would like to see submissions that relate to a recently filed patent application, a recently published patent application or a recently granted patent.  If there are other unique or interesting aspects that are topical we would find those interesting as well.  For example, if you just entered a licensing agreement, or you have reached an agreement to get your invention into stores, we would be interested in that news as well.  Essentially, we are looking for interesting stories that relate to inventions, particularly those with a patent angle.

5. What if I have not filed a patent applicaton yet?

ANSWER: If you have not filed a patent application yet you really need to be quite careful about the information you disclose, and particularly the information that you publish or allow others to publish.  For this reason you REALLY should have at least filed a provisional patent application before you consider having your invention profiled by us or anyone else.  If you have not yet filed even a provisional patent application you might be interested in using the Invent & Patent System to create and file a provisional patent application on your own.  Use of the system costs $89, and the fees due to the US Patent Office are typically $110.  We can also help you if you are interested in hiring an attorney to prepare and file a provisional patent application, a nonprovisional patent application or if you are looking for a patent search and patentability opinion.  If you are interested in these services please send me an e-mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

6. Do you guarantee that my invention will be profiled on IPWatchdog.com?

ANSWER: We cannot guarantee that your invention will be profiled, but we are going to do everything in our power to profile as many inventions as possible.  The whole point is to continue to build our blog with fresh content, so the idea is to publish as many as we can.  If your invention is not a new one and there is no new information or angle to write about it would make it difficult to write a newsworthy post, so give us the best information you can to help us understand why your invention is new, exciting and newsworthy.  We do reserve the right to refuse to profile inventions in order to maintain the integrity and sensibility of our blog.  And if you give us little or no information to work with we may have to decline.
