Towel for hair styling [ HTML ]
US Patent No. 6,655,387
Issued December 2, 2003

Although the title of this invention suggests that the invention is a
towel, and while the Summary of the Invention discusses only
an improved towel, the invention in this case is not a towel, but
rather a method for using a towel. This patent has only 7 claims, all
of which are method claims that relate to using a towel.
Nevertheless, and without further ado, lets go straight to the
broadest claim for this new and unique invention. Claim 1 reads
A method of using a towel to cover the neck and shoulder portions of
a user, the towel including a slit disposed in one edge of the towel,
the slit separating first and second portions of the towel, the
method comprising the steps of:
holding first and second corners of the towel such that the slit is
oriented substantially vertically;
permitting the first and second portions of the towel to fall
downward so as to form a top edge of the towel into substantially a V-shape;
wrapping the towel around the neck of the user; and
coupling said first and second corners so as to hold the towel
securely in place.
This application was filed on April 10, 2001, but I am sure that
every barber I have ever seen has used this method, or an obvious
variation thereof. I must be living in a twighlight zone episode. It
is like deja vu all over again. Strange indeed, particularly knowing
that the Patent Office would never issue a patent on something so
obviously obvious.
