Akin Gump Names Steven Maslowski New Co-Head of Intellectual Property Practice

Akin Gump has announced that Steven D. Maslowski has been named co-head of the firm’s intellectual property practice. Mr. Maslowski will transition into the role of sole leader of the practice during the next several months, after which time Steven M. Zager, who had been serving as the sole head of the practice since 2005, will step down to return to his full-time practice of law.

The Future of CleanTech Patents

The number of U.S. patents granted for clean energy technology has recently dropped following a near 10-year period of growth. In fact, according to the Brookings Institute, the number of CleanTech patents granted in the country fell by a whopping nine percent between 2014 and 2016. When the economy picks up and things shift again, energy patents should be able to move forward, but for now, the uncertainty with the current Trump administration has brought things to a complete standstill.

Congress Meets the New Media: How Facebook, Twitter & Social Media are Changing Communications

Over the last two election cycles it has become clear how important it is to have a social media strategy. President Obama masterfully used various Internet and social media communications to ride a wave into office, leaving the Republicans well behind. In the 2010 election cycle the Democrats tended to do quite well on Facebook, but the Republicans gained momentum and did much better on Twitter and enjoyed greater overall “digital energy,” at least according to research conducted by the EmergingMedia Research Council. It is safe to assume that Members of Congress are getting more involved with Social Media, and that trend should only continue to grow in coming years.
