IP Law Firm Boult Wade Tennant announces the opening of its Berlin office. The new office location will further strengthen the firm’s presence in Europe, with their Madrid office having opened last year.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is working on developing a rule that would require foreign trademark applicants and registrants to be represented by a U.S. licensed attorney when filing trademark documents with the USPTO. The rule will enter a public comment period in November, when the Office plans to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking on the new requirement. The public comment period will end in February leading up to a final action next June which will become effective in July 2019.
Dr. A. Christal Sheppard is joining IPwe as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. Christal was the Director of the first USPTO regional office. Additionally, she is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Nebraska, teaching Patent Law and International Intellectual Property.

Hogan Lovells announced that it has appointed Burkhart Goebel as the new global head of the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) practice. Dr. Goebel will begin his role in the position as of 1 July.
