Securing the Internet of Things: A Technology for Seamlessly Improving Credit Card Security

The patent portfolio discloses systems and methods involving a secure credit card with onboard biometric fingerprint capabilities, RFID, and display that can be powered either by ambient light, backlight from a point-of-sale terminal or mobile device, RFID coupling, smart IC contact, or battery. Card information is transmitted to the terminal and receives a secure validation code after which some combination of a card validation and/or biometric-based user validation code are generated and transmitted back to the point of validation. By decoupling authorization of the fingerprint image and the user’s personal information, transmission and data vulnerabilities within the existing payment card system are addressed while consumer behavior remains unchanged.

Growing market for wearable tech increases value for security

Consumers are very interested in knowing that their data is protected, and not simply their financial account data. However, as wearable technologies and the closely related Internet of Things continue to become more robust, there have been questions raised over the privacy of data created and transmitted by these devices as well as the capability of others to gain unauthorized remote access through a cyber attack. Technologies designed to provide fitness tracking could have the unintended consequence of giving a party gaining unauthorized access to that data the ability to track their movement.

The race to dominate the Internet of Things

The speedy evolution of what defines IoT is why the phrase is frequently called a concept, although it is best to say that the IoT describes the not too distant future where ordinary, everyday objects are connected to the Internet. That means that those objects, which can range from wearable devices to washing machines to lamps and coffee makers, will not only be able to relate to the user, but will be able to relate to one another and act in unison. It is against this backdrop that ICAP Patent Brokerage is going to be holding an Internet of Things auction on April 23, 2015. This auction will sell patent portfolios relating to wearables, smart-home technology, medical records and medical data collection, shipping and retail logistics/data, Big Data (including distributed storage architecture), sensors (MEMS and motion sensors), and the standards that drive the connectivity between them (802.11, NFC, Bluetooth, RFID, Zigbee, and PLC).

Carrier Grade Standard Essential 4G Patents on the Open Market

The Raze 4G/LTE patent portfolio, which includes patents having priority filing dates all the way back to April 2001, is currently for sale and could well fetch a handsome sum even given downward pressure in the market because these standard essential patents cover carrier grade technologies… This 4G/LTE patent portfolio includes 18 issued U.S. patents and another 4 pending U.S. patent applications. Broadly speaking, these patents are applicable to several technology areas with the next generation wireless and wireline technologies, particularly wide-area networks, narrow-area networks and cellular traffic to network offloading. The patents have no encumbrances, have never been licensed and have all commonly owned by Raze Technologies since the development of the underlying innovations.

Mformation Patents to be Auctioned by ICAP Patent Brokerage

Recently the ICAP Patent Brokerage announced that at the end of July 2014 it will auction via sealed bid several patent families in the area of remote, over the air (OTA) mobile end point management… It should be noted, however, that this portfolio does not include the patent asserted by Mformation against RIM – U.S. Patent No. 6,970,917… Mformation has appealed that decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, seeking reinstatement of the jury verdict. The appeal remains pending.

ICAP to Sell Smokeless Electronic Cigarette Patent Portfolio

A variety of electronic cigarettes have hit the market in recent months, and lately it seems that I am seeing a lot of electronic cigarette commercials on TV. Last week ICAP Patent Brokerage announced that it would be selling a patent portfolio of heatless and smokeless cigarette technology that exclusively advances electronic cigarette science. The patent portfolio includes U.S. Patent No. 6,769,436 and related patents that are still pending. According to ICAP, the ‘436 patent has already been challenged in court and prevailed as valid. And if you look at the claims in the patent you can’t help but notice that they seem exceptionally broad.
