Zeidman Technologies Sues U.S. Over Unlawful Abuse of Discretion in SBIR Grant Process

In the lawsuit filed in the Court of Federal Claims, Zeidman Technologies alleges that the U.S. government gave three conflicting and contradictory explanations as to why Zeidman’s proposal for the SBIR request was denied, despite the fact that Zeidman owns patented technology that specifically met the requirements of the request. These rejection explanations also allegedly relied on criteria that were not explicitly stated in the SBIR request for proposals, resulting in what Zeidman argues was an arbitrary decision.

Benefits of NASA Space Directive on Mars could be Limited by Uncertain Software, Biotech Patentability

President Donald Trump signed a new space policy directive for human expansion across the solar system, a directive which hearkens at least slightly back to Horace Greeley’s “Go West, young man.” Increased human expansion in space will produce innovations that can improve human life on Earth to the benefit of U.S. consumers, provided our nation’s struggling IP regime can be righted for the proper commercialization of such inventions.

USPTO Hosts Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium

On Friday March 11, 2011, I attended the Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium in honor of Women’s History Month at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The program was co-sponsored by the US Women’s Chamber of Commerce and focused on women entrepreneurs, the importance of intellectual property protection for their innovations, how to leverage economic opportunities for women-owned businesses and what resources are available exclusively for women-owned small businesses. The topics discussed focused solely on American business.
