Patent Litigators Mark Howland and Sam Joyner Join Carrington Coleman in Dallas Office

Patent litigators Mark C. Howland and Samuel E. Joyner have joined the Dallas-based law firm Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, LLP, marking an expansion of the firm’s existing intellectual property practice.

Mr. Howland and Mr. Joyner join the firm’s Dallas office as partners, bringing significant patent litigation expertise to Carrington Coleman’s existing copyright/trademark licensing, protection, and management services. The firm also advises clients on data privacy and cybersecurity matters in its Dallas and Longview offices.

Mark Howland

Mr. Howland was formerly a partner in the intellectual property practice at Jones Day, where he spent more than 15 years representing clients in patent and trade secret litigation in federal courts around the country and before the International Trade Commission on matters involving:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • Analog and digital circuits
  • Microprocessor, memory, and network architectures
  • Wireless communications
  • Software
  • Payment systems, encryption, and network security

For his IP litigation work, he has been recognized by Texas Super Lawyers or Texas Rising Stars each year since 2010, as well as earning a place in the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.  In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Howland provides strategic counseling regarding IP licensing and enforcement.

Sam Joyner

Mr. Joyner is a former name partner at the Dallas technology litigation boutique Ross Joyner PLLC, where he represented individual inventors and large corporations in a variety of cases heard in state and federal courts involving:

  • Patent infringement
  • Copyright enforcement
  • Trademark enforcement
  • Trade secret misappropriation
  • Unfair competition

Mr. Joyner is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a former Airborne Infantry Ranger. He is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Dallas, returning in 2011 as a class advisor.  He has also been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2014.
