Goldberg Kohn is pleased to announce the continued growth of its Intellectual Property Practice Group with the addition of Marsha Hoover as principal and group chair.  A seasoned attorney with more than 30 years of experience, Hoover joins Goldberg Kohn from Chicago IP boutique Marshall Gerstein & Borun, where she was a partner in its Trademarks and Copyrights practices.

This marks the second recent addition to Goldberg Kohn’s IP practice. In the spring of 2016, patent and trademark litigator Robert Leighton joined the firm from Sidley Austin.

“We are excited to welcome an attorney of Marsha’s exceptional skill and experience to lead our IP Practice,” said Ken Ulrich, chair of Goldberg Kohn’s Litigation Group. “As client demand for the full range of IP-related services continues to increase, it is imperative that we grow this practice and anticipate our clients’ future IP needs. Marsha’s keen understanding of this space makes her the ideal person to lead the way for Goldberg Kohn.”

Hoover assists clients in connection with trademark, copyright, trade secrets, and identity rights issues. She plays an active role in securing and protecting clients’ intellectual property assets, providing services that include trademark clearance and prosecution, negotiating licenses, counseling regarding marketing compliance and advertising, drafting privacy policies, and managing conflicts and litigation.

Hoover’s significant experience includes serving as primary outside trademark counsel to a Fortune 100 company, oversight of worldwide trademark prosecution and maintenance for global publishing and entertainment companies, clearing public domain sources for creative works, and leading due diligence investigations and disclosures in transactions.

“Joining a firm of Goldberg Kohn’s stature is a wonderful opportunity,” Hoover said. “The firm offers a broad range of services to its clients, and I look forward to complementing its capabilities with added depth in its Intellectual Property practice.”

In 2013, Hoover was selected as a “Top Rated Lawyer in Intellectual Property” by American Lawyer Media, the legal industry’s leading trade publisher, and Martindale-Hubbell. In each year since 2013, she has also been listed by World Trademark Review in the WTR 1000, the definitive resource for those seeking legal trademark expertise.

Hoover completed a two-year judicial clerkship for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois before beginning her private practice in commercial litigation. She earned her B.S. from Northwestern University and her J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law.
