Dentons adds three patent partners to IP and Technology Practice

SAN FRANCISCO, July 27, 2017 — Dentons, the global law firm, has added three patent partners to its award-winning Intellectual Property and Technology practice. Peter Yim and Brian Ho have joined the Firm’s San Francisco office and Christopher Eide joined the Silicon Valley office. Also joining are 16 associates and patent agents/analysts in five offices across the US.

Their clients include groundbreaking innovators in the high technology industry, including an industry-leading California-based global smartphone and computer manufacturer. Yim, Ho and Eide enjoy a high profile and established reputation in the Bay Area’s tech industry for their legal prowess and the longevity and cohesion of their team.

“Peter, Brian and Chris are dynamic patent prosecution lawyers and an excellent addition to our IP practice,” said Mike McNamara, US CEO of Dentons. “With an expanded bench of industry-leading award winners, Dentons will continue to prove to be a top destination firm for intellectual property matters. The growth of our IP and tech practice with a team of this caliber certainly reinforces that Dentons has the world’s number one patent prosecution team.”

“Our clients regularly come to us to solve problems that others could not. Dentons provides us with the best platform to deliver the highest quality work and most creative solutions that our clients demand and deserve,” said Yim. “We look forward to working with the superb group of lawyers at Dentons and an incredibly strong patent prosecution team across the US and the globe.”

The team’s partners bring decades of patent prosecution experience in the Bay Area. Yim alone brings nearly 20 years of representing cutting-edge technology companies, both large and small, in a wide variety of technology areas.

A distinguishing attribute of this team is its extensive Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) experience. They appear in oral hearings before the PTAB numerous times each year, both from regular examination and post-grant proceedings—eight hearings, to date, in 2017 alone. The group has helped to take cases from the Patent Office to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC), including a recent precedential case impacting the law on obviousness. Moreover, they have supported several patent litigations through trial and beyond, not only in the US but across the globe, including actions in Australia, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and the UK. The team regularly travels abroad to supervise global patent prosecution, often conducting in-person interviews with patent examiners in Europe.

The associates join the IP practice in Dentons’ offices across the United States. They are Bryan Candelario, Jennifer Chiang, Minsu Chung, Taylor Dennington, Joel Hamel, Ray Huang, Parker Kuhl, Kevin Lange, Victor Liu, Boris Pesin and Kenneth Stensland. A team of five patent agents/analysts will also join: James Frei, Nolan Clark Meghrouni-Brown, Michael Parris, Joel Stoffregen and Horace Zhang.

Dentons’ Intellectual Property and Technology practice consists of more than 100 lawyers and professionals, including numerous experienced electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, computer scientists, chemical engineers, PhDs and other technically trained professionals holding advanced degrees. Dentons’ IP group has consistently received top rankings in leading trade publications, including IAM Patents 1000, Legal 500 and Chambers USA. Most recently, patent analytics firm Juristat ranked Dentons the number one US patent prosecution firm, based on patent quality and number of filings. In addition, the group was named an “IP Litigation Powerhouse” in the BTI Litigation Outlook 2017, which also included Dentons in its “Fearsome Foursome” in recognition of the  litigators’ intense approach and fiercely successful tactics. The San Francisco/Silicon Valley IP team received a Corporate LiveWire Global Award for IP litigation in 2016. Law360 lists Dentons as one of the nation’s “Top 50 Litigation Powerhouse Firms.”
