L. Scott Oliver joins Orrick Silicon Valley office

Orrick announced that L. Scott Oliver has joined the firm, adding another seasoned first-chair trial lawyer to Orrick’s top-ranking IP bench. Scott, who joins from K&L Gates, will be based in Orrick’s Silicon Valley office.

“Scott brings additional first chair ITC and jury trial experience for leading tech and other companies. His experience in ITC proceedings and cases involving complex technologies is a perfect fit for our team,” said Denise Mingrone, Leader of Orrick’s IP Business Unit.

Scott has more than a decade of experience defending companies such as Meru Networks, Brocade Communications, Aruba Networks and others in district courts and the ITC. Notably, he was involved in both the Napster and MP3.com cases and has significant experience with patents related to the digital distribution of content. He brings deep knowledge of wireless technology, standards adoption, SEP defenses, signal impairments, MIMO, mesh networking, and wireless chipset design, and advises handset manufacturers and patent pools on the licensing of 802.11, 3G and LTE patents.

Scott is the former Chair of the ITC Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, is an outgoing member of Amicus and Ethics Committees and is a frequent speaker on patent and ITC issues.
