IPW Webinar – International Trademarks: When is the Madrid Protocol the Right Strategy?

August 18, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Madrid Protocol Webinar 8-18-20

The Madrid Protocol is a treaty that provides a streamlined process for protecting trademarks internationally. The Madrid System allowing for the application and maintenance of a trademark in over one hundred countries, allows for a single application to be filed with a single office, using one currency, and in a single language. But the Madrid Protocol is not without pitfalls and shortcomings, and is not always the best choice, particularly for trademark applicants seeking rights in China.

In addition to addressing questions from the audience, we will:

  • Provide an overview of the Madrid System;
  • Discuss the benefits and shortcomings of the Madrid System; and
  • Examine when and why it might be appropriate to avoid the Madrid System.

Join Gene Quinn, President & CEO of IPWatchdog, Inc. founder and twice named one of the global Top 50 Most Influential People in IP, for an in-depth look at the Madrid Protocol. Joining Gene will be Monica Riva Talley, a director with and head of Sterne Kessler’s Trademark & Brand Protection Practice, and Mei Tsang, a partner at Umberg Zipser LLP.
