June 19, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Join Gene Quinn, President, and CEO of IPWatchdog, Inc., and John White, patent procedure expert and creator of the #1 patent bar review course in the country, for 1 hour of ethics CLE on June 19, 2019, at 5pm ET. This ethics presentation will be divided into the following three segments:

  • United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Rules of Professional Conduct, which became effective May 3, 2013, and are modeled after the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct. See Changes to Representation of Others Before The United States Patent and Trademark Office, Federal Register, Vol. 78, No. 64, April 3, 2013.
  • The authority and jurisdiction of the Office of Enrollment & Discipline (OED) OED’s jurisdiction to take disciplinary action, specifically: (1) the ability to take action against both registered patent practitioners and attorneys representing clients on trademark matters; (2) OED’s limitation to enforce reciprocal discipline if another body has first proceeded; (3) OED’s jurisdiction to act in the first instance to take action against a registered practitioner or attorney; and (4) the authority of the USPTO Director suspend practitioners on an interim basis in extraordinary situations.
  • Final Orders and Settlements resulting from disciplinary proceedings brought by the OED, and specifically address the joint Federal Trade Commission and USPTO investigation into World Patent Marketing, which resulted in the FTC taking action in federal district court as well was OED taking disciplinary action against a number of practitioners involved in what the FTC described as a scheme to bilk inventors of millions of dollars.

This CLE has been approved for 1 hour of ethics credit in Virginia. As an approved CLE jurisdiction, attorneys in many states can claim CLE credit approved in Virginia, including attorneys in: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, HI, ME, NC NJ, NY, OH and others.
