Carlyn Burton

Carlyn Burton is a partner in the law firm of Osha Liang LLP, where her experience includes patent prosecution, counseling, licensing, and litigation in the chemical and mechanical arts. She has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in various chemical, materials, and mechanical fields including, but not limited to, drilling fluids, downhole tools, nanotechnology, batteries, adhesives, polymer chemistry, ion exchange systems, materials development, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals for a wide range of companies (start-up to multinational). In the area of intellectual property counseling, Carlyn has prepared non-infringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate opinions; counseled clients on patent design-around strategies and the strength of patents in anticipation of litigation; developed and implemented global patent prosecution strategies for numerous patent families; led teams through portfolio analysis and landscape sessions; and conducted intellectual property due diligence.

She is actively involved with Intellectual Property Owners Association, Houston Intellectual Property Law Association, and the American Chemical Society.
