Melissa Anyetei is an Intellectual Property partner in Mayer Brown’s Chicago office. A registered patent attorney with a background in engineering, Melissa focuses her practice on patent litigation, procurement and counseling and intellectual property licensing. She has experience in a wide range of technologies including medical devices, pharmaceutical products, software and consumer products.
Melissa has represented clients in federal district courts, before the Federal Circuit, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. She has counseled clients in all aspects of IP procurement and enforcement, including providing strategic advice regarding freedom to operate, patent prosecution and portfolio management. Melissa’s transactional IP experience includes evaluating and structuring technology-related agreements and conducting complex IP due diligence involving US, foreign and multinational corporations. Melissa has been recognized as a Rising Star in intellectual property litigation by Illinois Super Lawyers (2012-2019) and was named one of the “Most Powerful and Influential Women” in Illinois by the Illinois Diversity Council in 2016. She also received the “Leadership Excellence in Law” award from the Illinois Diversity Counsel in 2015. In addition, in 2014, Melissa was named as a Rising Star in IP finalist during the Euromoney Americas Women in Business Law Awards, and was named to Lawyers of Color’s “Hot List,” which honors early- to mid-career minority attorneys who are excelling in the legal profession.
Melissa received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, and her B.S. in industrial engineering from Northwestern University.
