Thomas Wong

Assistant General Counsel, Microsoft

Thomas Wong is the Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft.  He started at Microsoft in 2004 as an in-house prep and pros patent attorney in the Patent Group. In that role, he drafted patent applications and office action responses. In 2006, he moved to the IP Licensing Team as a Senior Licensing Executive, where he developed and managed revenue-generating licensing deals and programs involving Microsoft technologies and patents. He also worked with product groups to develop outbound IP licensing strategies. After about two years, he moved back to the Patent Group and took a patent attorney position in the Patent Counseling Team. In that role, he served as the patent attorney for various product teams in the Office Product Group (OPG) where his responsibilities included developing and managing patent portfolios on productivity and cloud computing technologies, managing outside counsel, handling patent conflict matters, and providing IP counseling to product group clients. In 2015, he became the Lead Attorney of the OPG Portfolio Development Team where he is responsible for managing a team of patent attorneys who build, develop, manage and utilize patent portfolios associated with OPG
