Acuminis Opens Milan Office and Names Seasoned International IP Lawyer, Carmen Castellano as Partner and Lead of the Firm’s Italian IP Practice

COSTA MESA, CA November 5, 2019 – acuminis is pleased to announce their global expansion as they open a new office in Milan, and the addition of Carmen Castellano, who joins the firm as a partner.

Castellano, an experienced international lawyer skilled in all aspects of intellectual property, with an emphasis on patent, trademark, design, copyright, and unfair competition litigation, will serve as the firm’s managing partner in the Milan office.

Castellano brings a wealth of successful case wins that include high profile international corporations and retail brand names and will contribute to the accuminis team’s continued growth.

“Carmen is a lawyer’s lawyer and brings a wealth of experience, including extensive cross-border expertise, concerning the critical issues our clients face every day.” said Gary A. Schonwald, P.C., partner in acuminis’ New York office and himself also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

“I have known Carmen for years and am delighted that she will be spearheading our move across the pond,” said Christian W. Liedtke, P.C., partner in acuminis’ Orange County, California office. “Her deep knowledge of Italian and European intellectual property law and track record of delivering results for blue chip clients make her an ideal addition to our growing team of quality lawyers.”

Commenting on her move, Castellano stated: “I am excited to be part of and help grow the expanding group of first-rate intellectual property lawyers that is acuminis. The U.S. market is of great commercial importance to most of my clients and they regularly face IP legal issues there. acuminis already advises some of Europe’s most well-known global players and hidden champions on U.S. IP matters. The synergies between our practices resulted in an opportunity I simply could not pass up.”

Castellano joins acuminis from international “Magic Circle” firm Allen & Overy where she headed that firm’s Italian intellectual property practice. Prior to A&O, she spent 10 years at intellectual property boutique Jacobacci & Associates.

Ms. Castellano obtained her juris doctorate equivalent from the University of Bari, Italy, obtained a Masters degree in intellectual property from the Consiglio dell’Ordine degli Avvocati di Milano and post graduate diplomas in International Trade Law from the International Labor Organization/Institute of European Studies in Turin, Italy, and Kings College, London where she studied US, UK, and EU copyright law.

Her practice is ranked by both Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars and Legal 500. She is active member of MARQUES, INTA and ChIPS.
