Kilpatrick Townsend Adds Leading ITC Partner to Patent Litigation Team

Aarti Shah Joins in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 8) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of Aarti Shah to the Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Shah will serve as a partner in the firm’s internationally recognized Intellectual Property Department and will be a member of the Patent Litigation Team. She joins from Mintz Levin.

Ms. Shah, who previously served as a senior investigative attorney in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), focuses her practice on assisting clients in developing and implementing effective ITC strategies. During her tenure at the ITC’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations, Ms. Shah developed her extensive trial experience while serving as lead counsel for the federal government in seven trials and in over 25 ITC investigations, covering trade secrets, trademarks, and electrical, computer, mechanical, and chemical patents. In private practice, she has been lead counsel for 12 ITC investigations, including six hearings and acted as counsel in numerous U.S. District Court patent litigations. Additionally, Ms. Shah is a sought-after thought leader — she is a prolific writer and speaker on ITC and litigation matters.

“Aarti brings impressive, top-tier experience and depth to our ITC team,” said Wab Kadaba, Kilpatrick Townsend Intellectual Property Department Chair. “Clients will benefit from her insight and unique perspective gained while serving as a senior investigative attorney at the ITC. Aarti has the ability to simplify technology for judges and juries while also devising creative and pragmatic strategies for clients. We welcome her to Kilpatrick Townsend.”

Earlier in her career, Ms. Shah practiced as a patent litigator with an international law firm where she handled numerous district court cases relating to computer, electrical, mechanical, and pharmaceutical technologies. She also led appellate litigation matters before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and provided counsel on patent portfolios and infringement opinions.

“I was attracted to the strength of Kilpatrick Townsend’s intellectual property department and in particular the success of its ITC practice,” said Aarti Shah. “Also, the firm’s extensive platform and diverse practice areas will allow me to expand my practice to better serve existing and new clients. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Washington, D.C. office and throughout the firm.”

Ms. Shah is committed to the development, training, and mentoring of attorneys and has created training programs for associates. She is very active in pro bono matters, particularly relating to women and children and has been recognized as a member of the D.C. Pro Bono Honor Roll. Ms. Shah is active in the legal community and serves on the Executive Committee of the ITC Trial Lawyers’ Association Member.

Ms. Shah earned her J.D., with honors, from Georgetown University and her B.A., with honors, from Harvard College.
