Robert J. Hollingshead Joins Firm’s Tokyo and Washington, D.C. Offices
TOKYO/WASHINGTON D.C. (September 16) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of Robert “Bob” Hollingshead to the firm’s Tokyo and Washington, D.C. offices as a partner on the Patent Litigation Team in its internationally recognized Intellectual Property Department. He joins from another major international law firm.
Mr. Hollingshead’s practice focuses on intellectual property disputes, including district court and International Trade Commission litigation, adversarial patent license negotiations, counseling, and international arbitration. He works with his clients to develop successful strategies for litigation, licensing, patent procurement, Inter-Partes Review, and portfolio development and leads adversarial patent licensing negotiations and transactional negotiations. While Mr. Hollingshead’s practice focuses primarily on Asia-based companies, he also represents clients in the U.S.
“I have always been impressed with the quality of Kilpatrick Townsend’s intellectual property practice, its first-rate trial lawyers, its commitment to client service and capabilities as a full-service general practice firm, as well as the firm’s significant footprint in Asia,” said Bob. “I have known several of the firm’s outstanding trial lawyers for many years. Kilpatrick Townsend’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, pro bono, and mentoring is very important to me. I look forward to working with leadership in Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, and in the U.S. to aggressively grow what is already a robust Asia practice.”
Mr. Hollingshead’s hire follows the addition in June of litigation partner Thomas G. Allen, who has a Japan and greater Asia-focused disputes practice.
“Bob will add depth to our expanding D.C. patent litigation practice while also providing on-the-ground counsel to clients in Japan and throughout Asia,” said Steve Moore and Matias Ferrario, Kilpatrick Townsend Patent Litigation Team Co-Chairs. “Bob’s practice will complement Aarti Shah’s practice who also joined the D.C. patent litigation team earlier this year. His collaborative approach to providing client service is an absolutely perfect fit for the firm. We welcome Bob to Kilpatrick Townsend.”
Mr. Hollingshead’s practice has been recognized by leading directories and publications, including Chambers Global, Chambers Asia Pacific, The Best Lawyers in Japan, Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific, Managing Intellectual Property IP Star, IAM Patent 1000, and Legal 500 Asia Pacific.
Mr. Hollingshead earned his J.D. from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. He received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and his B.S. in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland. Mr. Hollingshead is admitted in Japan (Gaikokuho-Jimu-Bengoshi), the District of Columbia, Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is editor of Licensing Executive Society of Japan and a Founding Officer of the Tokyo Intellectual Property American Inn of Court.
