The law firm of Adams and Reese further enhanced its intellectual property team as IP litigator Maia T. Woodhouse joined the firm’s Nashville office. Woodhouse is a member of the firm’s well-established global intellectual property practice, focusing on trademark, patent, trade dress, trade secret and copyright disputes.

Loeb & Loeb LLP announced this week that Josh Brackin has joined the law firm’s Nashville office as Senior Counsel, bringing more than 15 years of experience in various segments of the music and new media industries. Brackin handles a variety of transactional entertainment matters with a focus on music, copyright, digital and new media rights, administration and licensing of intellectual property rights and corporate organization.

On Jan. 25, 2018, Munck Wilson Mandala elected intellectual property associate Neil Ferrari as a new partner, effective January 1, 2018.  Mr. Ferrari is a member of MWM’s technology/intellectual property law group and has a broad range of legal experience in patent matters. “Neil is one of the hardest working attorneys in our firm and I am pleased to see his commitment lead to this next phase of his legal career with us,” said William Munck, MWM’s managing partner.

On 1 February 2018, J A Kemp, a leading firm of European and UK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, will open an office in Paris. Graham Lewis and Jimmy Nicholls, French-speaking patent attorney partners who have both spent their entire careers at J A Kemp, will relocate to Paris to lead the office from day one. James Fish, the partner who heads up the firm’s Trade Marks and Designs Group, will lead the firm’s Paris-based trade marks operation.

Unconscious bias prevents law firms, corporations and Government agencies from hiring the best talent and retaining that talent.  Bias against those that are not in the majority group generally is not intentional.  We are all biased no matter our race, gender, sexual orientation or other differentiators. Thoughtful legal managers develop a strategy to help recognize the existence and minimize the effects of unconscious bias.   This requires acknowledging that it exists and then developing procedures to help minimize its effect.   The result is not only a more diverse and inclusive workforce, but one that is more productive and innovative.

F. Scott Kieff, former Commissioner of the International Trade Commission (ITC), has joined McKool Smith as a Principal in its Washington, D.C. office. Nominated by President Obama, Mr. Kieff served as Commissioner of the ITC from October 2013 to June 2017.
